About Colter Backcountry

Colter Backcountry was founded by two brothers who share a deep passion for backcountry fishing and long-distance wilderness adventure: Patrick and Daniel Bauman. After completing the grueling 3,100-mile Continental Divide Trail in 2021, they quickly realized how transformative ultralight gear could be—yet struggled to find fishing gear that matched the performance of their backpacking kit.

That experience sparked an idea: why shouldn’t backcountry anglers have gear as minimal, strong, and lightweight as their hiking counterparts? From that realization, Colter Backcountry was born. Today, their gear is designed to be as lightweight as possible, built tough enough for rugged terrain, and purpose-driven for those who go through the wilderness—not around it.
